The Saint: Abyss of Despair is a hidden object story set on a sweltering estate in Africa. You play John, an ex-priest who believes the Evil One lives inside him. His cousin's young daughter has started behaving strangely, so John travels out to help. Within hours of arriving he sees strange things and blacks out for hours at a time.
Every scene is a point and click search. You comb each room for hidden items, question the people around the estate, and solve puzzles that open the way forward. The girl speaks of "She," a presence angered by John's arrival. Each clue pushes the mystery toward its answer, and the child's life depends on it.
John earned his nickname after a Bible stopped shrapnel from piercing his heart in battle. He devoted his life to God that day. Years later he has left the priesthood, convinced the Evil One now lives in him. His cousin lost his wife to African fever, and the man's daughter is no longer herself. John steps onto the estate to help, and the blackouts begin at once.
You work through 35 locations, one screen at a time. Each holds hidden objects, and the right find opens a door, a drawer, or a conversation. 27 mini-games break up the searching with puzzles and logic tasks. Ten characters cross your path, and every conversation adds another piece. Fail to uncover what "She" wants, and the girl does not survive. This adventure runs a learn-as-you-play tutorial, so you never stop to look up how something works.
